"Harmony" – a creative representation of the Camel Estuary in Padstow, Cornwall.
When cycling the Camel Trail, I love stopping at this spot on the bridge where you can look out beyond the Doom Bar, a sandbar said to have been cursed by a heartbroken mermaid who had been shot by a local man she fell in love with. The curse of the Doom Bar is known to have wrecked more that 600 fishermen and merchant’s ships!
On this day over the summer, the tide was completely out and I watched as fishermen turned the bed of the River Camel, digging up rag worm for bait to be used later when the tide was high and they made their way out to sea. It made me reflect on the rhythm of nature, how connected and in tune it is. Different tides bring different opportunities, the moon in tune with Earth and nature – there is balance. I thought of how important it is to maintain balance, not just in our actions, but also in our thoughts, words and how we interact with the world around and within us – harmony.
