“Sea Shanty” represents Portscatho fishing village in Cornwall. I wanted to express the unpredictable, rough and often treacherous nature of the sea and fishing by use of imperfect, somewhat emotional, strokes of my pallet knife. It made me reflect on the people who have lived in Cornish fishing villages throughout time, what fishing meant (and still means) to families and the community, the heritage, passion, dedication, danger but also the fun, laughter and of course… sea shanties!
